1997 came, the band split, however two important things occurred. Singer-songwriter 'little big man' emerged, and yes, that name was stolen from that film with Dustin Hoffman…something about Red Indians…He also joined 'Clear Cut' a great four-piece covers band, which Rob still plays in today. Clear Cut gives him the opportunity to regularly play & sing 2hour rock & pop sets, where people actually know the songs. They have a following too, which is pretty cool for a covers band. They get applause & they get paid which Rob describes as 'not enough'.
In the late 90s Rob recorded a couple of Little Big Man sessions at La Rocka Studios, North London with a couple of musician friends, Phil & Dave on Guitar & Drums, featuring Ronnie Jackwood on guitar in LBM's 'Miserable Lives' video (financed by the allure of the KFC bargain bucket)
In 2000 Rob teamed up with Ed Poole again & to date Ed has produced over 50 songs for Little Big Man. This all takes place at Ed's Havona Studios in Northampton of which Rob says "It's a lovely drive in to the countryside you know, it's quite delightful" Rob & Ed play all the instruments themselves & usually finish the session with a Jack & Coke, some kind of music playing & a beautiful meal cooked by Gill, Ed's wife.
Rob's electro-acoustic guitar, pen, pad & mini-disc recorder are on permanent standby in his lounge, right next to where the TV, Radio, CD collection & magazines just happen to be…ever stuck for inspiration Rob says "Stealing! It's all you need, it's free & we shouldn't be ashamed.
This is Rock n Roll as Rob knows it, it's great, & so are his songs! |
